Based on feedback from our users, we are announcing the new Zeplin Team plan, made available on March 16th, 2021.

The Zeplin Team plan includes features that make collaboration easier with the addition of a team workspace, user management, and support for up to 12 projects. This plan will replace the Starter and Growing Business plans in 2023.

Why are you retiring the Starter & Growing Business plan?

While the Starter and Growing Business plans have been well-loved by users, there were opportunities to make collaboration easier for teams using these plans.

Based on user feedback, we are moving from the personal workspace offered in the Starter and Growing Business plans to a team workspace, including user management, in the new Zeplin Team plan.

If I’m a Starter or Growing Business plan user, how does this affect me?

As a current Starter or Growing Business plan user, you can stay on either of these plans until we retire them sometime in 2023. We’ll be sure to reach out before we retire these plans, though.

In the interim, you have the option to move over to Zeplin’s new Team plan which you can learn more about here.

I’m considering moving to Figma. Do I still need Zeplin?

Yes, Figma is better together with Zeplin and provides the following benefits:

  • Clarity on “finalized” designs (i.e., this can be challenging to do with design tools).

  • Collaboration workspace that is friendly to non-designers (i.e., does not require training).

  • Bring structure to designs (i.e., organize design screens into defined Sections and apply custom Tags).

  • Extend design systems into the developer world (i.e., surface reusable components, including Figma Variants, easily for developers).

Why is the Zeplin Team Plan licensed per seat?

Since the Zeplin Team plan is built for teams, we wanted to let users subscribe only for the number of seats they require.

Typically, a team should add seats for users that export designs, access technical specs, download assets, etc. Viewing a project and reading/adding notes does not require a seat.

Who requires a seat on the Zeplin Team plan?

Users that need to export designs, access technical specs, and download assets require a seat.

Viewing a project and reading/adding notes does not require a seat.

Do developers require a seat? If so, why?

Yes, Zeplin provides several key capabilities that are needed by developers to help bring designs to life:

  • Clarity on “finalized” designs (i.e., this can be challenging to do with design tools).

  • Collaboration workspace that is friendly to developers (i.e., does not require training).

  • Bring structure to designs (i.e., organize design screens into defined Sections and apply custom Tags).

  • Extend design systems into the developer world (i.e., surface reusable components, including Figma Variants, easily for developers).

  • Tailored technical specs (i.e., dimensions, downloadable assets, code snippets, etc.).

With the new Team plan, was the goal to increase prices?

No, increasing prices for Starter and Growing Business plan users was not a goal of this pricing update.

When moving to seat-based pricing, many users will see the cost they pay for Zeplin decrease, and some will see the cost increase. The decrease or increase in cost will depend on the number of seats they purchase on the Team Plan; the pricing update was not designed to increase prices as a goal.

I’m a Zeplin Agency Member. Does this change apply to me?

We are not making any pricing changes specifically for our Zeplin Agency Members. If you have questions, you can reach the Zeplin Agency team at zam@zeplin.io.
