While adding an annotation to a screen, you can link it to a specific component. The linked annotation will show up on every screen in your project that this component is used.

You can add an annotation by using ⌘ + Click (Ctrl for Windows and Linux users) anywhere on the screen and selecting “Annotation” from the top left menu. Check out more about adding annotations to a screen here.

You’ll see a “Link to component” option on the bottom if you have components under the annotation’s position. In other words, to link an annotation to a component, you need to add this annotation on top of the component you want to link.

The annotation remains “linked” to the component wherever it is used in a project and remains attached whenever a screen is updated. If there are multiple instances of the same component within a screen, Zeplin will show the linked annotation when it’s first shown on the screen — from top to down.

Unlinking an annotation from a component

To unlink an annotation, hover over the “linked to …” info in the annotation and click on the unlink button.

Once you unlink, the annotation will disappear from all the other screens it was displayed before and will only stay on the screen that was unlinked.

☝️ You can unlink an annotation from a component if you’re the user who linked that annotation or if you are an Admin or the Owner in the workspace.
