  • Only members with a Developer or higher role.

☝️ Developers can only add or edit their own annotations, while Editors or higher roles can edit/delete others’ annotations as well.

Flow annotations help teams document decisions, call out requirements, and add context directly on flow boards. You can use them to explain logic, highlight edge cases, track assumptions, or communicate implementation details as your flow evolves.

Adding an annotation on a flow board

To add an annotation on your flow, open your flow board and click the Annotation button in the toolbar at the bottom, then click anywhere on the canvas to place the annotation. You can use connectors to connect your annotations to screens, shapes, and vice versa.

💁‍♀️ You can mention users in flow annotations with “@”, and they will receive a notification about it.

Adding a type

By default, new annotations appear as a yellow “sticky note”. Once you assign a type, it will turn into an annotation, and the background color will automatically update to match that type.

Flow annotations support the same annotation types you use on screens—such as Behavior, Requirement, API, and other custom annotation types you set for the project or the workspace.

💁‍♀️ Each annotation is counted against the 250-node limit for flow boards.

Managing flow annotations

Flow annotations can be customized to better match your workflows and preferences.

Changing annotation type

You can change an annotation's type from the Flow Annotations options menu that appears at the top once you click on the annotation. Once you change the type, the background color of the annotation will change to match the updated type. You can change the background color later from the options menu.

Resizing an annotation

You can resize an annotation horizontally by hovering near its right edge, then selecting and dragging the "II" handle that appears.

Adding/removing signature

All annotations have a signature by default. If you'd like, you can remove or re-add your signature from the options menu.

Changing font sizes and styles

You can select between different font sizes and styles from the options menu under "Aa".

Deleting an annotation

To delete an annotation, you can click on the “⋯” button on the options menu and select "Delete" from the dropdown.
